How To Customize Your Facebook Fan Page URL

As a blogger, we are always trying to find an easier way to integrate our blog into large social networks. With Facebook, that’s somewhat of a daunting task since it appears the typical, daily Facebook user is insulated from a lot of outside marketing — especially advertising.

Many bloggers have questioned the relevance of maintaining a Facebook Fan Page since conversation and interaction is done away from the blog’s normal surroundings. I feel that Facebook users do want to access your blog within your blog’s true environment and that integrating my blog within the sanctity of someone’s Facebook experience is non-threatening and yields conversions back to my blog. What do you think?

Today, we will customize your Facebook Fan Page to make it more memorable, professional, and user-friendly.

When I originally set up my Facebook Fan Page, the site appeared in search and in the address bar as: www.facebook.com/pages/Source-Blogger/127829344235. That wasn’t the look I was going for, nor would I expect readers to remember the site’s URL  structure. Plus, try putting that on a business card!

Fortunately Facebook allows you to customize your Facebook Fan Page URL more to your liking!

  • Log in to your Facebook account and after you have logged in, type facebook.com/username (exactly as shown) in your browser’s address bar. You will be directed to the page to customize the URL.

  • The page will automatically show your Facebook profile URL (your username) and the link for you to customize your fan page URL.
  • After you click on the Set a username for your Pages a drop down menu will appear showing all your fan pages.
  • Select one of your fan pages and a box (Enter desired username) will appear next to the page name. *Note that this option appears only to be available if your fan page has more than 25 fans. (If you are sitting on 24 fans at the moment, let me know – wink!)
  • Enter your desired username for the page and check the availability. This action can be done only once so choose your username (URL) very carefully.
  • When everything is done your page URL should look like this: facebook.com/yoururl.

    Gret post Jeffrey!
Sometimes the obvious things are often the hardest to work out. I know it took me a while of searching!
I want to update my newly created page, but as yet I only have something like 12 likes!
You can like it if you like (hint hint)

Actually, there’s no need to type in the URL area. There’s a link on a Page admin view that says something about User Name. Follow that.

Facebook fan page is a great tool indeed though I could not make a beter use of it. I’ve seen askkim is boosting it high, making a best use of. She is running #tribeTuesday #fridayFanPage and many other regular activities. Guess, needs to run something like that to use FanPage for better benefits.

Its not been many days I’ve customized my fan page for seommotips. Now I can access it just typing facebook.com/seommotips.

I’m having problems in tagging people on a message, is it possible in facebook?

Hi Jeffrey, nice tip. For me Facebook is so bizarre in this regard. I can’t understand what the problem is with giving you the URL from day one? And what makes 25 a good number to prove that you’re worthy of a URL?

It’s just weird. When I first signed up for Facebook on my personal account – I didn’t even have a blog back in those days – they announced the custom URL feature for everyone. Do you have any idea when this “25 likes” rule came into play?

Sorry if I sound salty, I just think Facebook is so bizarre (I know, I said that already but I feel better now).

Have a good day Jeffery, I’m headed over to help poor Alex out with a like.

Thank you sooo much for this extremely helpful post! I have had problems with this ever since I started my fan page (actually mine is a “group”) because I screwed up lol. Whenever I try to direct people to my page on Facebook it comes up as someone else’s page. I am DEFINITELY going to be using the directions you gave us later today. I am ON IT and I THANK YOU!

    Donnie,

    It was my pleasure.

Donnie pondered: “Why does Facebook makes this so hard?”

    LOL. Good question.

Facebook is totally illogical to me. They have stuff spread out from here to kingdom come, and some stuff you have to go to the developer subdomain to get. BTW my fan page …../tix.comix has a little > 25 likes, enough to qualify for a name, but it could use a few more likes….
